Folks, I've been getting a number of phone calls of late in which the callers are urgently warning me that the warranty on my auto is about to expire.  That they've attempted to contact me, several times, by phone and by mail.  That this is the last chance I have before the warranty expires and that renewing it now will save me a great deal of money.  I just have to "press 2 and speak with an operator" to solve this dire crisis. It's a lie. This is but another "phishing" scam making the rounds...

I had my laptop repaired back in September, for a motherboard/GPU failure. At the time, they offered me a 120 dollar extended warranty pack... I figured, since they were doing the repair as a warranty repair anyway, I might as well take the offer, since once this model of notebook died, it's often given to having other issues. I went ahead and picked it up.. the Hard drive is now in a pre-failure state... cost for a new Hard drive for this laptop, from HP? 425 bucks.. outrageous.... but.. for me...

Cross-posted to other communities, apologies if you see this twice. Though it hurts to say it, I am really starting to regret buying a Mac instead of a regular pc laptop. When it works, the computer is flawless- but it doesn't always work. Since I got it last year, I've had the speakers stop working, the battery die, the motherboard mess up so that it needed replacing, the casing crack in several places and the hard drive come loose so that the computer couldn't find it.
